悲哉行 Write on Sorrow 白居易 Bay Juyi 悲哉为儒者， Woe to a student's life lead; 力学不知疲。 He kept hard learning even when-- 读书眼欲暗， His eyesight dim for massive read 秉笔手生胝。 And hands to sore to hold the pen. 十上方一第， Endeavour to pass'd Official Test 成名常苦迟。 Spent his life's years best; 纵有宦达者， To gain power he made his way 两鬓已成丝。 But when succeed'd,his hair gray. 可怜少壮日， Grief!Only poverty and loneliness 适在穷贱时。 When he had youth and health; 丈夫老且病， Now suffering aging and illness 焉用富贵为。 He can not enjoy his wealth. 沉沉朱门宅， In the house o' a noble clan 中有乳臭儿。 Lives a young and handsome man 状貌如妇人， Who has a delicate face like girl 光明膏粱肌。 And smoothy skin kept well. 手不把书卷， He neither learnt works o' the sage 身不擐戎衣。 Nor serv'd in army on horse-back 二十袭封爵， But inherit'd title at a young age 门承勋戚资。 And wealth he will ne'er lack 春来日日出， Every day in Spring he goes out to play 服御何轻肥。 Riding a steed and in valuable array; 朝从博徒饮， At morn with gambler takes delight 暮有倡楼期。 And in brothels at night. 平封还酒债， He exploits his rief paying for wine 堆金选蛾眉。 And piles of gold for a concubine 声色狗马外， Except for those things for joy 其余一无知。 He knows no more than a little boy. 山苗与涧松， A highland bush and a lowland pine-- 地势随高卑。 The heights their positions define. 古来无奈何， For so unfair the world keeps, 非君独伤悲。 I'm not the only one who weeps.
